What tiger I hear you say……..
To answer this, let’s go back in time to the era of the hunter and gatherer. If he encountered a tiger while out in the bush, his fight or flight survival mechanism would activate, and he would run for his life. After this he might go back to camp and calm would resume, meaning his survival response would switch off and his nervous system would regain balance. He might tell his people about his day and that would be it. Life would be back to normal till the next time he encountered a tiger!
So, if we fast forward to nowadays we might all be asking the question….
“Why does there seem to be so many more people suffering with anxiety and physical illness today?”
This is because so many of us have an imbalance in our nervous system and the reason is because we are constantly on edge, waiting and watching for the next tiger to come our way!
To put this simply, many of us are in constant fight or flight mode. You see your boss, the person you had a fight with last week or the partner you’re not happy with are all like the tiger chasing you. You are constantly on edge waiting and watching for the next blow up. It’s like our nervous system gets locked into top gear and our bodies are just not able to switch into low gear without some help.
Being locked into nervous system overdrive can be extremely detrimental to our overall mental and physical health. If you feel as if you are stuck in top gear, then there is a good chance you might be experiencing some of the below symptoms;
- Poor sleep
- Poor concentration
- Constantly feeling on edge
- Anxious feelings
- Feeling angry
- Disorientated
- Racing heart beat
- Agitation
If you are suffering any of these symptoms, then Kinesiology would be extremely beneficial in helping you to restore calm and balance to your nervous system. As a Kinesiologist I specialise in interrupting the fight or fight cycle by activating and turning on the switch for the rest and digest system.
